International Nurses Day: Celebrating our Palliative Care Nurses
Ms. Ajisha B. S. & Ms. Shiji V. O.

Ms Ajisha, is a palliative care nurse at the Department of Palliative Medicine, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences. On completion of her graduation, she completed a six weeks residential certificate course in Palliative care and has been working in the Department for three years. She is enthusiastic about acquiring and implementing new skills that are required to deliver care for palliative care patients. She is an excellent teacher, participates in departmental academic activities, and presents lectures on palliative care at the nursing college.
Ms Ajisha’s approach to patients is impeccable, and she takes a keen interest in educating the patients and their family members about palliative care requirements and how to meet them. She extends compassionate care to the patients and families in their time of need.
Ms Shiji V O is a palliative care nursing assistant who has been working in the Department for the past 20 years. She supports the patients’ and their families by keeping in touch with them via phone calls to make sure that they are comfortable, and then also updates the medical staff about the patient and the families’ grievances.
Ms Shiji practices a very compassionate approach to things and is very supportive to both her patients’ and the staff at the department.
Both Ajisha and Shiji are assets to the Department of Palliative Medicine, at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences. Their services are well appreciated by not only the staff at the Department of Palliative Medicine but within the oncology service as a whole.
