IAPC’s celebration of National Doctors’ Day

The IAPC extends its heartiest warm wishes to all the Palliative Care Doctors on the occasion of National Doctors’ Day.

On this occasion, the IAPC presents to you a short compilation of the MD and DNB doctors of Palliative Medicine to recognise, encourage, motivate and introduce these young professionals to the larger palliative care community via the IAPC’s national platform.

The project aims to motivate our young professionals to develop and spread palliative care throughout the country, and also inspire them to take on new challenges towards improving the delivery of quality palliative care in the country.

The IAPC would like to thank the champions, from each of the centers offering MD and DNB in Palliative Medicine, for their cooperation and enthusiastic support towards the successful completion of this compilation. This project would not have been possible without the perseverance and determination from each one of these champions!

Last but not the least, the IAPC once again acknowledges and appreciates all the pioneers and every other doctor practising palliative medicine in India. Palliative care / medicine in the country would not be what it is today, if not for the efforts from each of you!

Happy Doctors Day! Please click here to view the IAPC’s Celebration of National Doctors’ Day.

Webinar on ‘Understanding Women in Sex Work: A First step towards an inclusion in palliative care services’ was conducted successfully on Thursday, 2nd June, 2022

The webinar on ‘Understanding Women in Sex Work : A First step towards inclusion in palliative care services’, jointly organised by the IAPC, the Uttara Karnataka Mahila Okkoota and Samraksha was conducted on Thursday, 2nd June, 2022, and was a grand success.

The webinar commemorated the International Sex Workers Day, and provided the PC community with a perspective of the socio legal framework within which sex work operates in Indian Society and also provided an overview of the different ways in which sex work operates in the country and the identities of the different women practicing sex work. The webinar also highlighted how involvement in sex work affects support structures for women, and its impact on care along with the issues faced by this group of women while accessing health care services.

The very interesting and thought provoking webinar was well appreciated. The event was also covered by the Indian Express, Bengaluru edition. Please click here to view the press coverage.

Snippets from feedback received at the session as follows:

“I am in oncology palliative care and its relevance to sex workers was unknown to me; this is an eye opener concerning their social and medical problems. I feel is very important to include them under palliative care”
“Thanks a lot to the organisers for hosting such a webinar on an often neglected subject and bringing it into the focus it deserves”
“Thank you so much for organising such an insightful discussion. It was indeed an eye opener for me.”

Please click here to watch a recording of the webinar, in case you missed it.

We thank our panelists for sharing their time and for educating the palliative care community about this very important topic.
