Dr. Geeta Joshi Honoured as Guest of Honour at GIMACON 2025, Goa

Dr. Geeta Joshi (President, IAPC and Former Chief Executive Officer, Community Oncology Center, Ahmedabad  & Former Deputy Director, GCRI Ahmedabad) delivered the Keynote Address on “Basic Concepts of Palliative Care” at the XXXVII GIMACON, where she was honoured as the Guest of Honour during the inaugural session of the conference.

GIMACON, the annual medical conference of the Indian Medical Association, Goa State Branch, was held on 27–28 September in Goa. The conference successfully introduced the concept of palliative care to a wider audience, and Dr. Joshi’s keynote address was warmly received by the medical community in a packed auditorium.

Dr. Sushma Bhatnagar Delivers Dr. Abhijeet Bhattacharya Memorial Oration at 10th SARPS Congress, New Delhi

Dr. Sushma Bhatnagar (Past President, IAPC & Former Chief, DR BRAIRCH, AIIMS, New Delhi, Clinical Lead, Palliative Medicine, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi) delivered the prestigious Dr. Abhijeet Bhattacharya Memorial Oration at the 10th SARPS Congress on Pain, held in New Delhi on 26–27 September. Her oration, titled Pain Management in India: A Paradigm Shift, highlighted the remarkable progress and evolving landscape of pain care in the country.

The lecture hall was packed to capacity, and Dr. Bhatnagar received a standing ovation in recognition of her exemplary contributions to pain and palliative medicine education, research, and advocacy.The session was chaired by Dr. Mary Cardosa (President-Elect, IASP), Dr. Madhuri Lokapur (India), and Dr. Preeti Doshi (India).

The 10th SARPS Congress on Pain was jointly organized by the South Asian Regional Pain Society (SARPS) and the Indian Society for the Study of Pain (ISSP), in collaboration with the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP).

Dr. Anuja Damani and Dr. Arun Ghoshal Selected for Prestigious ICMR DHR Faculty PhD Grant

Dr.Anuja Damani (Additional Professor, Department of Palliative Medicine and Supportive Care, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal) and Dr. Arun Ghoshal (Assistant Professor, Department of Palliative Medicine and Supportive Care, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal) have been selected for the highly competitive ICMR DHR Faculty PhD position, each receiving a grant of Rs. 50 lakhs to conduct their PhD studies. Out of 60 positions available for medical faculty across India in all specialties, this is the first time that the specialty of palliative medicine has been awarded this prestigious opportunity.

On this occasion, Dr. Arun Ghoshal and Dr. Anuja Damani expressed their deepest gratitude to their mentors for this achievement. “We are deeply grateful to Dr. Naveen Salins (Professor and Head, Dean-Research, Department of Palliative Medicine and Supportive Care, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal), for his invaluable guidance and mentorship. We also thank all our mentors who have supported us on this journey.”

Dr. H. K. Das Receives Letter of Appreciation as Abstract Reviewer from EAPC Congress 2025

Dr. H. K. Das (Scientist – E / Deputy Director, ICMR – RMRC, North East Region & Executive Committee Member of IAPC, North East Region), received a Letter of Appreciation from the European Association of Palliative Care (EAPC) Congress 2025 for reviewing 20 abstracts submitted for the 19th EAPC Congress, held from 29–31 May in Helsinki, Finland. It is indeed an honour to contribute to the global palliative care community.

Further recognising his expertise, Dr. Das has been invited by the EAPC to continue as an Abstract Reviewer for the upcoming EAPC Congress 2026 in Prague.
