East Zone: World Hospice & Palliative Care Day Celebration at
AIIMS, Raipur, Chhattisgarh
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Raipur, Chhattisgarh, celebrated this year’s World Hospice and Palliative Care (WHPCD) by conducting a training program for doctors and nurses and by organizing a quiz competition.
Over 100 Doctors and Nurses participated in the training sessions and learnt the key aspects of pain management, communication, and nursing issues in palliative care.
Dr. Nitin Nagarkar, Director, AIIMS Raipur, emphasized the need for Palliative care for both cancer and other life limiting illness. He also assured the team for his constant support and reiterated the importance of a team approach.
Dr. Agarwal, Head of Department, Anesthesia, pointed out the need for Palliative care in Chhattisgarh and his perspectives for its expansion.
Dr. Subrata, Professor, Anesthesia, provided insights into the various domains and opportunities of palliative care.
Dr. Samarjeet Dey, Associate Professor, Anesthesia, highlighted the Concepts of palliative care along with its barriers for implementation. He also drew attention about the lacuna in the current availability of palliative care services in India and the proposed plans to fill those lacuna.
Dr. Yashwant Kashyap, In-charge, Department of Medical Oncology, shared his ideas about the early integration of Palliative care in Cancer Management.
Dr. Avinash Tiwari, Specialist Palliative Medicine Physician in Medical Oncology, emphasized the current need for Palliative Care among oncology patients and the lacuna in End of life care. Dr Tiwari then delivered the vote of thanks.
The celebrations were attended by several Head of Departments and faculties from various departments and ended with the felicitation of all the Nurses for their services in palliative care. The winners from the quiz competition were also facilitated thereafter.
