The IAPC successfully conducts online examinations for 352 candidates participating in the IAPC’s CCEPC course
We are happy to report that a total of 352 candidates (266 doctors and 86 nurses) spread across the country, participated successfully in the online examination held on Sunday, 9th April, 2022 between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
The examinations were glitch free and went on smoothly via the platform developed and gifted to IAPC, at zero cost by TCS India.

Register before 7th May 2022, for Caregiver Saathi’s first cohort of ‘Practices of Compassionate Caring’ program
The first cohort of ‘Practices of Compassionate Caring’, offered by Caregiver Saathi, is slated to begin on Tuesday, 10th May, 2022. This is a skill building program for those already into caregiving and those who aspire to become professional caregivers.
This program aims to help caregivers navigate the challenges of caregiving and become the best version of themselves. Trainers from the healthcare industry will be delivering a niche curriculum keeping in mind the problems faced by a caregiver. All the sessions are interactive with case studies, polls, reflections and will focus on delivering an experiential module. The course’s curriculum includes 12 modules with weekly 2 hours of classes, scheduled for every Tuesday, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Caregiver Saathi will provide a certificate to each participant after completion of course. This course is free of cost for the first cohort.

AIIMS Jodhpur, conducts a Palliative Care Awareness Program for their ward boys
The Pain and Palliative Care Unit, the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care, and the Department of Community Medicine and Family Medicine, from AIIMS Jodhpur, jointly organised a series of sensitization programs in palliative care for their hospital’s ward boys.
The organisers share that healthcare workers, especially the wardboys, can play the role of community workers for home-based palliative care, and the main objective of this program is to empower these ward boys by creating awareness and to identify volunteers to work in palliative care.
The three hourly sensitization sessions were delivered in Hindi and were conducted in batches of 50 – 60 persons every fortnightly, with sessions being held on Saturdays’ 26th March, 2022, 9th April, 2022 and 23rd April. The sessions are being conducted under the guidance of Dr Sanjeev Misra, Director and CEO, AIIMS Jodhpur, along with the support of the Hospital Administration. The Faculty for these sessions include Dr Bharat Paliwal, Dr Manoj Kamal, Dr Srikanth Srinivasan, and Nursing Officers Mr Arvind Sharma, Mr Jagdish Prajapat, Mr Jyotirmay Dhenwaland and Mr Ramswaroop.
Sessions include interactive lectures (with case studies) on the overview of Palliative care, Palliative Nursing care in the Hospital and at home, and the Role of Volunteers in Palliative Care. Basic queries and myths among the participants were also clarified during the sessions.
The sessions concluded with those wardboys who are interested in volunteering, registering for the basic training sessions which is scheduled to be conducted at a later date.
Sawai Mansingh Medical College, Jaipur, conducts a 3-day ELNEC training program for their Nurses
The ELNEC (End of Life Nursing Education Consortium) India, in association with the Department of Palliative Medicine, Sawai Mansingh Medical College (SMS), Jaipur, conducted a three day physical training program for Nurses of SMS, Jaipur, between Monday, 28th March, 2022 and Wednesday, 30th March, 2022 at SMS, Jaipur.
32 nurses from various departments underwent training to become empowered to care for patients with cancer and other life threatening chronic illnesses.
The interactive workshop was ably lead by Sr Hanife Macgamwell and her team, who included Nr Arvind Sharma, Nr Jagdish Prajapat, Sr Mamta Parihar and Nr Ram Swaroop. The interactive training sessions, included theoretical and practical components (role plays etc.) and encompassed topics of Palliative care Nursing, Communication, Pain management, Ethics in palliative care, Symptom management, Grief, Loss & bereavement, Care at the time of death and Self care.
Update from IAPC ACADEMY
Report on activities in April
4 lectures from the IAPC Academy’s Online Lecture Series 4, on ‘Palliative Care Drugs’ were delivered this month. Series 4 will provide a total of 26 lectures, and be delivered primarily by Junior Residents of Palliative Medicine and moderated by a Faculty.
This lecture series aims to satiate the palliative care fraternity’s hunger for knowledge every monday morning between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m.
The first presentation for the month was an interesting presentation on ‘Buprenorphine’ delivered by Dr Lekha Vijaykumar Raval and moderated by Dr Bhavna Patel. The next session was a comprehensive presentation on ‘Methadone’ delivered by Dr Sachin Ravji Gunde and moderated by Dr Prasun P. This was followed by an excellent presentation on ‘Adjuvant Analgesics 1 (Adjuvants used in neuropathic pain)’, which was delivered by Dr Krishnapriya V and moderated by Dr Saurabh Vig. The sessions in April concluded with an interesting presentation on ‘Adjuvant Analgesics 2’ delivered by Dr Varun Yadav and moderated by Dr Ravi Umrania.
