North Zone: World Hospice & Palliative Care Day Celebration at
Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi
The Department of Palliative Medicine at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, celebrated the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day by organizing lectures, a symposium, a panel discussion and various other events.
Over 100 delegates representing Hospital Trustees, Management and Administration, Consultants from different specialities, the Chief Nursing Superintendent, Nursing Officers, Postgraduate medical students, Volunteers and Social workers participated in the celebrations.
Lectures were held on topics such as ‘Principles and Barriers to Implementation of Palliative Care’ and ‘An introduction to Hospice Care and End-of-Life-Care’.
A Symposium on ‘How do you perceive the role of Palliative Care in your speciality?’, was attended by participants from Respiratory Medicine, Medical Oncology, Gastroenterology and Paediatric hemato-oncology.
A Panel Discussion on ‘Palliative Care – A Multifaceted Approach’ was organized in which panelists included a Colorectal Surgeon, a Hematologist, a Clinical Psychologist, two Nursing Officers trained in palliative care services and a Social activist.
Other events included the presentation of a short skit on the life of a young patient who was suffering from multiple sclerosis to highlight the need and role of Palliative Care, and a Poem recitation by students of Delhi Medical Colleges. We were overwhelmed with receiving over 50 responses from across the country for our slogan, poster and short write up competitions which were based on the WHPCD theme “Leave no-one behind – equity in access to palliative care”. Prizes were awarded for the three best entries in each category and for the cultural programs that were organsied.
The program was promoted on various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
The celebrations concluded with a wholesome lunch.
