JLN Medical College, Ajmer, receives approval from NMC to offer MD in Palliative Medicine
Post the National Medical Commission’s (NMC) inspection at the Jawahar Lal Nehru (JLN) Medical College, Ajmer, Rajasthan, on Monday, 6th February, 2023, the center has been sanctioned to offer MD in Palliative Medicine (5 Seats).
The institute will be able to intake 5 students from this very academic year, as the NEET counselling for the year is yet to take place. An excited Dr Neena Jain (Senior Professor and Head, Department of Palliative Medicine, JLN Medical College, Ajmer) shares, “We are thrilled to have received this sanction and recognition. We now have the opportunity to provide high quality training in palliative medicine to the country’s future professionals in palliative medicine. We assure you that the young professionals graduating from this institute will be well trained and will help in provisioning quality care to our suffering patients from across the country.”
The Department of Palliative Medicine at the center is currently managed by Dr Neena Jain, Dr Deepak Garg (Associate Professor) and Dr Vikas Gupta (Assistant Professor) and caters to both cancer and non cancer patients, and also provides pain management for patients experiencing all kinds of chronic pain.

Dr M R Rajagopal bestowed with the ‘Distinguished Mentor Award’ at GARC 2023 on 16th March, 2023
We are delighted to share that Dr M R Rajagopal (Founder Chairman, Pallium India) has been presented with the ‘Distinguished Mentor Award’ at the Ganga Anaesthesia Refresher Course (GARC) 2023.
Dr Rajagopal received this award on Thursday, 16th March, 2023, at an award ceremony held at Ganga Hospital’s Auditorium at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
The Ganga Anaesthesia Refresher Course is an annual conference which began in 2015 to focus on the holistic growth of Anaesthesiologists. Since then, the conference has attracted delegates from across India and the neighbouring countries. During this conference each year, a Leadership Summit is held to recognise Teachers and Mentors who have enriched the minds of several young professionals by felicitating them with the ‘Distinguished Mentor Award’.
The other recipients who received the award this year are Dr S Ahanatha Pillai (Madurai), Brigadier Ramachandran (Bengaluru), Dr P K Singh (Etawah) and Dr Vasumati Divekar (Mumbai).

Dr Naveen Salins awarded the EAPC’s ‘Clinical Impact Award’ on 20th March, 2023
We are very excited to share that Dr Naveen Salins (Associate Dean, Research, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal) is this year’s recipient for the European Association of Palliative Care’s (EAPC) ‘Clinical Impact Award’.
The EAPC’s ‘Clinical Impact Award’ is designed to highlight and recognise the outstanding scientific contributions to palliative care research which significantly impacts clinical practice, education, policy and public advocacy. The recognition therefore aims to highlight an individual’s career development and their actual and potential contributions to the field.
This year, Prof Dr Naveen Salins and Prof Dr Sebastino Mercandanti from Europe have been recognised for this prestigious award.
Dr Salins will receive the award during this year’s EAPC’s annual congress, scheduled to be held at Rotterdam, Netherlands, between 15th – 17th June 2023. Additionally, Dr Salins will also have an opportunity to present his work at the conference.
Earlier this month, Dr Salins also became the Associate Dean, Research, at the Kasturba Medical College, Manipal.

The ‘Stone laying ceremony’ for Alpha Hospice was held on 15th March, 2023
The Stone laying ceremony for Alpha Hospice was held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 15th March, 2023, at Edamuttam, Thrissur, Kerala. The foundation stone was unveiled by Dr K M Noorden (Chairman, Alpha Trusts) in the presence of eminent community leaders, Volunteers, Wellwishers and Staff.
An initiative of Alpha Charitable Trust, the new center aims to offer medical support in a homely atmosphere to those in need of such services. To this end, the new center will offer a 24*7 casualty department and 25 High-dependency units, which will be a mid way between a home and an ICU.
Additionally, Alpha hospice will also offer 140 patient rooms and 140 treatment facilities to provide palliative in-patient physiotherapy treatment to those suffering from acute difficulty for physical movements to help improve their mobility along with improving their quality of life.
This new project is being constructed in a five acre land which has been donated by a well wisher of the project and is expected to be functional from May 2025 to supplement Alpha Palliative Care’s current physiotherapy service provisioning, dialysis care services and home care services.
