Dr Roop Gursahani honoured with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ by the INPCS on 21st September 2024 at Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA
We are thrilled to share that Dr Roop Gursahani (Consultant Neurologist, PD Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai) has been honoured with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ by the International Neuro Palliative Care Society (INPCS) at Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA, on Saturday, 21st September, 2024. The award was presented by Dr Benzi Kluger (President, INPCS).
When we reached out to Dr Gursahani on this occasion, he shares, “It has been a joy and a revelation to be able to bring palliative care into my neurology practice. I am privileged to have found my ‘Ikigai’ as I enter on the last phase of my journey as a physician”

Dr Arun Deka awarded ‘Palliative Excellence Award 2024’, by Deepsikha Foundation
We are delighted to share that Dr Arun Deka (Head of the Department, Pain and Palliative Medicine, State Cancer Institute, Guwahati) is the recipient of the ‘Palliative Excellence Award 2024’, by Deepsikha Foundation, Guwahati. Dr Deka received this award at an event held at the auditorium of State Cancer Institute, Guwahati, Assam on Saturday, 5th October 2024. The event was organised by Cape Care Foundation. Mr Guna Gobinda Das from Deepsikha foundation presented the award to Dr Deka.
When we reached out to Dr. Deka on the occasion, he humbly shared, “I am deeply grateful to Deepsikha Foundation for this recognition. I am fortunate to have had the unwavering support of my exceptional team and family, without whom this achievement would not have been possible. I am inspired to continue making meaningful contributions to the field of palliative care, while striving for further growth and excellence.”

Dr Biji M S honoured by the Indian Medical Association Kerala State Branch
Dr. Biji M S ((Assistant Professor and Head In charge, Department of Cancer Palliative Medicine, Malabar Cancer Centre, Thalassery, Kerala) was honoured by the Indian Medical Association Kerala State Branch (IMA KSB), for her outstanding contributions to the field of Palliative Care. Dr Biji was felicitated by Dr Joseph Benaven (President, IMA KSB) by adorning the ‘stole of Fraternal Fellowship’. The felicitation was held during the Installation ceremony of the office bearers of IMA Thalassery Branch on Friday, 11th October 2024.
Dr. Biji has been the Convenor of the IMA KSB Committee for Palliative Care since October 2023. She has played a pivotal role in promoting palliative care training among doctors under the aegis of IMA KSB.
Notably, Dr. Biji was the coordinator of the Foundation Course in Palliative Care, a joint initiative of the IMA KSB and the Institute of Palliative Medicine, Kozhikode. The program aimed to train doctors in Palliative Medicine. A total of 250 doctors were successfully trained under this program.
On the occasion Dr Biji shares, “This is a truly proud moment for palliative care. Through this noble initiative of IMA, we have been able to motivate and train nearly 250 doctors in palliative care, who will now serve as beacons of hope for those in need”
The Palliative Care Services at Malabar Cancer Centre, Thalassery, Kerala, is being led by Dr. Biji M S. The centre has recently been recognised as ESMO (European Society for Medical Oncology) Accredited Designated Centre of Integrated Oncology and Palliative Care.

Foundation Stone laid for Pallium India Home in Thiruvananthapuram, on Saturday, 5th October 2024
The foundation stone for Pallium India Home was laid by Justice Devan Ramachandran, (Judge, Kerala High Court), on Saturday, 5th October 2024. The ceremony, held at the project site in Thiruvananthapuram, was attended by distinguished guests, medical professionals, volunteers, and supporters of Pallium India.
Kadakampally Surendran (Honorable MLA, Kerala) was the chief guest. Mr. S M Vijayanand (former Chief Secretary,Kerala) also graced the occasion.
In his keynote address, Justice Devan Ramachandran emphasized the importance of integrating palliative care into everyday life. He commended Pallium India for its pioneering work in providing essential services to those in need. Mr. Kadakampally Surendran, in his address, highlighted the critical role of organizations like Pallium India in filling the gaps in the healthcare system by providing palliative care services.
Binod Hariharan, Chairman of Pallium India, delivered the Presidential Address, outlining the organization’s vision for the future. Dr. M. R. Rajagopal, Founder of Pallium India, presented the concept and vision behind the Pallium India Home.
Mr. S M Vijayanand, Trustee of Pallium India, appreciated the organization’s efforts in working at the panchayat level, in and around Thiruvananthapuram and in Karnataka, promoting community involvement in palliative care.
The new facility, Palliaum India Home, has been designed to provide holistic care, encompassing medical, psychological, and emotional support to patients and their families, serving as a beacon of hope and comfort.

The Age Care Foundation’s Geriatric and Palliative Care Hospital in Visakhapatnam Celebrates Grihapravesam Ceremony
The Age Care Foundation marked a significant milestone with the Grihapravesam ceremony at its newly built Geriatric and Palliative Care Hospital on Saturday, 12th October 2024, a day that coincided with the auspicious occasion of Dasara. The ceremony was held at the hospital’s premises in Gambheeram, Visakhapatnam. Although the official inauguration is slated for January 2025, the foundation’s trustees gathered to bless the new facility, which boasts 96 rooms.
The new facility will have a dedicated inpatient unit for palliative care, where patients will receive comprehensive care. All services for palliative care patients will be provided free of charge, underscoring the foundation’s commitment to making quality care accessible to those in need.
The hospital’s infrastructure is designed to facilitate learning and collaboration, with a conference room that can accommodate 120 people, two seminar halls, guest rooms for faculty, and a dormitory for nurses. These amenities will enable the hospital to host workshops, training sessions, and conferences, furthering its mission to promote geriatric and palliative care.
