Update: Online workshop on Psychosocial care in chronic illness (non oncology)

The IAPC’s online workshop on the Psychosocial Aspects of providing care to patients with Non-Oncological Conditions in a Palliative Care setting concluded successfully on Saturday, 23rd October, 2021. The five half-day workshop was launched on Saturday, 9th October, 2021, on the occasion of the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day and was spread over three weekends.

The course empowered a total of 23 Doctors, Nurses, Counsellors and Social Workers as they gained insights into various psychosocial and spiritual issues, and the coping mechanisms impacting the quality of life of the patients and the caregivers in palliative care settings.

Eminent and expert faculty ensured that the participants stayed riveted throughout the sessions as they delivered rich and interactive sessions. Snippets from participant feedback’s below:

IAPC Academy to soon launch several exciting new courses / webinars

The IAPC Academy is working towards launching several new online certificate courses towards empowering different cadres of the palliative care workforce. The different courses are as below:

  • Online certificate course for Pharmacists
  • Online certificate course for Physiotherapists
  • Online one day training in palliative care for Specialists in Gynaecologic Oncology
  • Role of Specialist Interventions in Palliative Care

Update from IAPC ACADEMY

Report on activities in October

Come rain or sun, the palliative care fraternity from across the country and beyond, continued to be enthusiastic participants at the IAPC’s weekly Academy webinars, held every Monday between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m.

The lecture series in October began with Col. (Dr.) Nikahat Jahan’s fantastic presentation on ‘Respiratory Emergencies 2: Massive Pleural Effusion, Pneumothorax, Acute and Sub-acute Airway Obstruction’. This was followed by Dr. Neethu Susan Abraham’s riveting presentation on ‘Gastrointestinal Emergencies: Acute upper and lower GI bleeding, Perforation Peritonitis and Acute chemoradiotherapy associated GI Mucositis’. The concluding session of the Section A series (Palliative Medicine in Cancer Emergencies: Review of Evidence) of the IAPC Academy Lecture Series 3 was delivered by Dr. Shamili Poojari’s very insightful session on ‘Renal Emergencies: Acute Obstructive Uropathy, Acute Kidney Injury and Haemorrhagic cystitis’. Dr. Pallavi delivered the first lecture of the Section B series (Palliative Medicine in Neurology: Review of Evidence), which was a comprehensive presentation on ‘Severe Acute Brain Injury (SABI)’.

The palliative care community has been further empowered by engaging and learning from all the faculties. We sincerely thank all our faculty for sharing their time and expertise with us during these lectures.

We are excited to announce that two very eminent speakers, Dr. Fiona Rawlinson and Dr. Santosh Chaturvedi will be joining us all on the evening of Monday, 8th  November, 2021, to deliver a lecture on ‘Ethical dilemma in conducting research in Palliative Medicine’ between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
