West Zone: World Hospice & Palliative Care Day Celebration at

Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute, Ahmedabad, Gujarat

The Department of Pain and Palliative Medicine along with the Community Oncology Centre celebrated the world hospice and palliative care day at Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute (GCRI), Ahmedabad with great zeal.

The primary emphasis of the celebrations was to generate and spread awareness about the need and importance of palliative care among the general public.

Various programs were conducted by GCRI at their center and at the hospice centre.

  • A Palliative care week was celebrated along with a workshop on “Communication in Palliative Care” for nurses and doctors, was organised in 5 batches.
  • Print and Digital Media Campaigns to raise awareness about the importance and benefits of palliative care was jointly organized by GCRI and the Government of Gujarat.
  • A Poster competition centralised upon palliative care was conducted for the nursing students at the hospice.
  • A musical program and various other fun filled activities were conducted for the patients and caregivers, with support and participation from doctors, nurses, patients, and other caregivers.
  • Patients and caregivers were given balloons to release to the sky to symbolise the letting go of all sufferings.

The program culminated with a sumptuous lunch and a promise to ensure that our patients lived their lives with dignity.
