Dr Geeta Joshi awarded the ‘Sadvichar Parivar Women’s Achievement Award’ on 3rd March, 2025
We are pleased to share that Dr Geeta Joshi (President, IAPC) has been awarded the ‘Sadvichar Parivar Women’s Achievement Award’ on Monday, 3rd March, 2025.
The award was presented to Dr Joshi by the Sadvichar Parivar at an event held at the Sadvichar Parivar Campus in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
The award was presented to Dr Joshi in recognition of her exceptional work in the field of Medicine including palliative care and for her contributions towards alleviating the suffering of those suffering from life limiting illnesses.
On the occasion of receiving the award Dr Joshi shared, “I am deeply honoured to be recognized for my work in medicine which also includes palliative care, which are fields that embody compassion, dignity and service. I would like to dedicate this acknowledgement to my mentors who have guided me, to my teams who I work with, and to most importantly my patients and families who have trusted me with their care. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to make healthcare not just about treatment but also about humanity and hope”.

Mr Thottathil Raveendran (Hon. MLA, Kozhikode North) presented the award (a cash prize and a citation) to Dr Suresh Kumar in the presence of several other guests.
The award presented by OISCA International recognizes Dr Suresh Kumar’s outstanding leadership in providing compassionate and holistic palliative care, and in pioneering community based program, along with training healthcare professionals to enhance the quality of life of patients and their families.
On this occasion, Dr Suresh Kumar shares, “This recognition is not for me—it’s a tribute to the collective efforts of our team. For over 30 years, we have worked tirelessly to develop services that provide care and support to those with palliative care needs. Together, we’ve empowered communities, building caregiving skills and instilling the belief that 90% of people will face suffering in the final phase of life. Palliative care is often the only solace during this time, and it is our mission to ensure that no one has to face it alone”.

Dr Obangjungla launches ‘Serene Palliative Care’, a compassionate community home based palliative care service, in Dimapur, Nagaland, on 26th March, 2025
We are excited to share that Dr Obangjungla (IAPC’s Executive Committee Member, North East Region) launched ‘Serene Palliative Care’, a compassionate community home based palliative care service, at Dimapur, Nagaland, on Wednesday, 26th March, 2025.
The urgent and rising need for palliative care services in Dimapur due to chronic diseases and life style diseases, along with the associated financial and psycho-social challenges that individuals from the lower and middle socioeconomic categories are forced to face on everyday basis due to the effect of such diseases, urged Dr Obangjungla to initiate these services in the community.
The newly launched services will provide free home-based palliative care services for those in need of such services in Dimapur, once a week to begin with. These services will be provided by a team represented by a doctor, a nurse, and a counsellor.
A motivated Dr Obangjungla shared, “Nagaland currently has only 4-5 physicians trained in palliative care. There is an urgent need to increase care provision and expand coverage. I encourage the community and the healthcare providers to embrace palliative care and ensure that our patients receive the dignity and support that they deserve. This initiative is a small step of mine towards narrowing this gap.”

Bagchi Karunashraya Palliative Care Center presented with the ‘2025 Excellence in Palliative Care Award’ on 28th February, 2025
We are happy to share that the Bagchi Karunashraya Palliative Care Center (BKPCC) was presented with the ‘2025 Excellence in Palliative Care Award’ by Network 18 in association with Rotary Club of Bhubaneswar Elite, during the former’s Healthcare Summit 2025, on Friday, 28th February, 2025, at Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
The award celebrates pioneers in healthcare and specially for excellence in palliative care.
The award was received jointly by Mr. Mathew George Chandy (CEO, Bangalore Hospice Trust), Mr. Georjo Pius Vaipana Pius (COO, BKPCC), and Dr. Satish Sadangi (Associate Consultant, BKPCC).
When we reached out to Mr Chandy he shared, “This recognition is a testament to our commitment to deliver compassionate and quality palliative care in Odisha. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Network 18 and News18 Odia for acknowledging our dedication to providing comfort, dignity, and support to patients and their families during their most challenging times.”
