JASCAP felicitated by TMC Mumbai
We are pleased to share that JASCAP was felicitated by Tata Memorial Center (TMC) Mumbai, on Monday, 3rd December, 2024, at an event held at TMC in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
JASCAP was felicitated in acknowledgement of their outstanding contribution towards improving the Quality of Life of patients and caregivers receiving palliative care at the Department of Palliative Medicine, TMC, Mumbai.
Dr Ganpathy K V (CEO, JASCAP) received the felicitation from the Directors of Tata Memorial Centre and Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai.
JASCAP is an NGO, dedicated to servicing information, financial and psychosocial needs of advanced cancer patients, and project based financing for the Department of Palliative Medicine at TMH Mumbai for over three decades and for TMH Varanasi over five years.
On this occasion, Dr Ganpathy K V shares, “We are deeply honoured for this recognition. This acknowledgement definitely motivates us to increase our scale and scope of services and improve the quality of life of those in need of such services. We thank all our team members, our donors, and especially the teams at TMH Mumbai and Varanasi for their support.”

Dr Abhishek Shukla conferred with the ‘Icons of Health Award’
We are happy to share that Dr Abhishek Shukla (Founder, Aastha Hospice) was conferred with the prestigious ‘Icons of Health Award’ during an event at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday, 27th November, 2024.
Dr Abhishek Shukla was presented the award by Shri Brajesh Pathak (Deputy Chief Minister, Government of Uttar Pradesh).
The award was conferred to Dr Shukla in acknowledgement of his unparalleled contributions to the field of geriatric care, palliative medicine, and disability rehabilitation. The award also stands as witness to Dr Shukla’s dedication and tireless efforts in providing care and dignity to the elderly and disabled, while also addressing their physical, emotional, and social needs.
On the occasion, Dr Shukla shares, “I am humbled with this prestigious recognition. This award encourages my team and I to continue providing a sanctuary for those in need by setting benchmarks in compassionate and innovative care for our patients. It also serves us a reminder to continue being mindful of prioritising initiatives that transform lives and empower individuals to overcome their challenges.”

Sparsh Hospice awarded the ‘HM TV Business Excellence Award 2024 (Social Service)’
We are delighted to share that Sparsh Hospice, Hyderabad, Telangana, was awarded the ‘HM TV Business Excellence Award 2024 (Social Service)’ during HM TV’s 7th Annual Awards ceremony held on Saturday, 23rd November, 2024, at Hyderabad.
The award was presented to Sparsh Hospice in recognition of their invaluable service to over 12,000 terminally-ill patients and their family members, who were in need of palliative care services.
Mr Jagadish Ramadugu (Treasurer and Long-term Trustee, Sparsh Hospice) and Dr Rohini (Senior Consultant, Sparsh Hospice) received the award in the presence of Shri Ponnam Prabhakar (Honourable Transport Minister, Government of Telangana), Shri T.G. Venkatesh (Chairman, TGVSRACC Ltd) and other eminent delegates.
When we contacted the team, they shared, “We are trying to narrow the care-gap for terminally ill patients, by partnering with stakeholders from both the private and public sector. This recognition is not limited to only the service rendered Sparsh Hospice, but is in fact an achievement of the entire entire palliative care community”.
Sparsh Hospice is a project of the Rotary Club of Banjara Hills Charitable Trust.

Ms Poonam Bagai honoured with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ at PHOCON 2024
We are delighted to share that Ms Poonam Bagai (Founder Chairman, CanKids KidsCan, New Delhi), an advocate for palliative care, was the recipient of the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ during the 27th Annual Pediatric Hematology Oncology Conference (PHOCON 2024), held at Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir, between Saturday, 23rd November, 2024, and Sunday, 24th November, 2024.
The award was accorded to Ms Bagai in recognition of her passion, unabating dedication and selfless service to children with cancer and their families.

Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement celebrated it’s 41st Foundation Day on 1st December, 2024
We are happy to share that Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM) celebrated their 41st Foundation Day at Mysore, Karnataka, on Sunday, 1st December, 2024, with an event to commemorate the milestone.
On the occasion, over 1800 individuals (Employees, Family members, Donors and well-wishers, etc.) participated in an event to celebrate this observance. During the event, Ms. Sowmya, a Nursing Officer from their Palliative Care Program, was also presented with the ‘Annual Excellence Award’ for her services in Palliative Care.
Over the past four decades, SVYM has been working towards building an equitable society for our future generations, to align with their vision of a resurgent India. The institution serves communities in the furthest corners of Karnataka to implement a comprehensive developmental model involving Health, Education, Socio-economic Empowerment and Climate Action, focusing on building the Human and Social Capital of the local communities towards community-centred development. Over 40 Programs including palliative care, are being currently undertaken by SVYM across Karnataka in partnership with 140 Corporate and Private partners, UN and multilateral agencies, Central and State Govt, NGOs and academic partners and the support of over 1500 Individual wellwishers.
Always keen to tackle grassroot level issues, SVYM brought palliative care services within their ambit of services in 2009 with the initiation of Home based Palliative care services. In 2018, the team scaled up services to begin offering institution based palliative care. Since then SVYM has been able to provide free of cost and holistic care for over 10,000 families who are in need of palliative care in six locations (Dharwad, Hassan, Kodagu, Mysuru, Saragur and Bengaluru) in Karnataka.
On this occasion, the team shares, “We thank each of our robust and dynamic mix of partners, volunteers, staff and well-wishers for their unwavering support towards fueling SVYM’s inexhaustible spirit in responding to Swami Vivekananda’s clarion call – To arise, awake and stop not until the goal is reached. Over the next few years, we will continue to synergise our efforts and deliver the best that we are capable of.”

Pallium India celebrated 21 years of service on 15th December, 2024
We are elated to share that Pallium India completed 21 years of rendering palliative care services on Sunday, 15th December, 2024.
Over the years, Pallium India has touched over 27,480 beneficiaries (without counting family members) as of November, 2024, lives through its unwavering commitment to provide high quality palliative care and alleviate the pain and other distressing symptoms for those suffering from serious health related illnesses. In addition to providing direct patient care, they have also been supporting families and training healthcare professionals with an aim to create a more compassionate society for all.
The team celebrated the day on Friday, 20th December, 2024, along with their Christmas Celebrations. The celebrations were inaugurated by Ms Swathi (Beneficiary, Pallium India) and Mr Sreeram (A renowned singer). Mr G Balachandran (Volunteer, Pallium India) welcomed the audience and invited Dr M. R. Rajagopal (Founder and Chairman-Emeritus, Pallium India) and Mrs Rajeshwari (Volunteer, Pallium India) to address the gathering. Ms Angel Augustine presented the vote of thanks. This was followed by a fun cultural program in which Mr Akhil Vinay from Shankar Mahadevan Academy Nirvana enthralled the audience with his songs. Keeping up with tradition, staff members and volunteers exchanged Secret Santa gifts. Ms Sree Priya and Mr Sharath Krishna co-ordinated the program. Several staff were also felicitated on the occasion and prizes were awarded to the winners of the Christmas tree decoration competition conducted as part of the Christmas celebrations. It was a memorable day of fun and laughter for everyone.
On surpassing this significant milestone, Ms Smriti Rana (Head, Strategic Programs and Partnerships; Head, WHO Collaborating Centre for Training and Policy on Access to Pain Relief) shares, “21 years is considered a “coming of age” milestone in many cultures. Pallium India has now entered a phase of being more confident in our competence, with a clearer vision, an appetite for meaningful collaborations and definitely more determined to reduce needless suffering however far we can extend our sphere of influence. This has been possible because of the faith placed in us by supporters, donors, partners and team members, and the continuing lessons we learn from our greatest teachers – the patients and families we serve.”

Amrit Dhara Palliative Care Trust celebrated 5 years of service delivery on 21st December, 2024
We are happy to share that Amrit Dhara Palliative Care Trust (ADPCT) celebrated 5 years of service delivery on Saturday, 21st December, 2024.
Team ADPCT celebrated this milestone by inviting staff, caregivers and well wishers to join the team at an event held at KIIT University in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, following which Dr Mami Parija (Founder, ADPCT) welcomed the guests and dignitaries. During her address, Dr Parija reiterated the importance of holistic and compassionate care in cancer treatment, and also shed some light upon the basic concepts of palliative care while also providing insights into ADPCT’s work. Dr Bidhu K Mohanti (Advisor, ADPCT; Director – Academic, Bagchi Sri Shankara Cancer Center and Research Institute, Bhubaneswar) then shared insights into the lessons learnt over the years.
Dr Bijay Kumar Mohapatra (Director, Health Services, Government of Odisha) graced the occasion as Guest of Honour, and Padmashree Dr Subrat K Acharya (Gastroenterologist and Pro Chancellor, KIIT University) graced the occasion as Chief Guest for the evening.
On the occasion, the team also launched a caregiver’s support program, aptly named ‘Amrit Sahay’, meaning Eternal Support. This initiative aims to assess and understand the stress level / patterns of caregivers to thereafter offer support accordingly. The initiative envisions to do this by empowering caregivers to handle their own stress and equipping them with efficient patient handling skills. Additionally, the initiative also helps build a network of caregivers to provide moral and emotional support to fellow members.
The event concluded with the staff of ADCPT being felicitated, followed by a Vote of Thanks.
On surpassing this milestone, Dr Parija shares, “My team and I are truly humbled today. I thank all our supporters and well wishers for their trust and belief in ADPCT’s mission. I am truly grateful to my team for their commitment and dedication towards providing compassionate care for those who need it the most. Today’s observance further motivates us to work harder and provide quality care to those under our care.”
