From the President’s Desk

Dr. Geeta Joshi

Dear All,

Building on over a decade of expertise, the Indian Association of Palliative Care (IAPC) continues to offer diverse training programs catering to members of the multidisciplinary team. IAPC’s Foundation Course in the Essentials of Palliative Care remains one of the most popular programs for doctors and nurses. Over the years, the course has evolved into a hybrid format that includes online and offline components, along with separate teaching sessions and examinations tailored for doctors and nurses. We’re excited to share key moments from the examinations for the January 2025 batch of the Foundation Course in the Essentials of Palliative Care, held across India on Saturday, 5th April, 2025. For a glimpse of these moments, please visit the Education and Training section of this newsletter.

The Academy of Palliative Medicine (APM), a constituent body of IAPC, has initiated a collaboration with the Indian Academy of Geriatrics. APM has also announced the commencement of its 2nd cohort of the Certificate Course in the Basics of Palliative Care, and the 3rd cohort of Advanced Nursing Skills in Palliative Care. This presents a valuable opportunity for healthcare professionals to enhance their knowledge and skills in palliative care. Several Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and task forces are taking shape, all aimed at enhancing quality care and advancing education in Palliative Medicine. Our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated team of APM led by Dr. Sushma Bhatnagar (Chairperson, APM) and Dr. Naveen Salins (Secretary General, APM).

In line with our commitment to integrating quality palliative care at every level of the healthcare system, the IAPC is engaged in training doctors and nurses at the district level through the National Programme for Palliative Care (NPPC). One such training is scheduled between 6th and 9th of May, 2025 in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, with active involvement from IAPC’s regional representatives and Facutly form North-East region.

State Chapters of IAPC are also planning to launch several initiatives. The   West Bengal chapter of IAPC has announced the first State Conference in November 2025.

Preparations for IAPCON 2026 are in full swing. Combo registrations for IAPC membership and conference participation are now open on the official conference website. Don’t miss this opportunity to register for the conference and also to become a proud Life Member of IAPC! Please follow this link to complete your registration process.
