World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2023 was celebrated on 14th October by the Team Palliative Care, AIIMS, Deoghar with much zeal. Theme for this year’s event was ”Compassionate Communities: Together for Palliative Care”. The events were kicked off with the Executive Director Prof (Dr) Saurabh Varshney’s welcome address and Medical Superintendent and Dean Students welfare, Team lead PC emphasizing on the need for compassionate communities.
Advocacy Letter to the Governor of Jharkhand Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan in Hindi and English were shared. ED and MS soft launched the CSSP for empowering caregivers of palliative patients. We relayed messages from WHO Director General, President IAPC (Prof Sushma Bhatnagar) and former ED, APHN (Prof Rosalie Shaw) followed by a talk from faculty CFM on Community participation in Palliative Care.
This was followed by highlighting of the work done by Team Palliative care so far and outlining further plan of action and culminated with an engrossing case-based panel discussion with enthusiastic participation from faculty of Surgery, Orthopedics, Pulmonary medicine, Cardiology, Psychiatry, Pain Specialist and Nursing. We hope to carry on this exchange of knowledge and healthy discussions in real time in our daily endeavor to provide patient care!
