North East Zone: World Hospice & Palliative Care Day Celebration at
Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati, Assam
Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati, Assam, celebrated World Hospice and Palliative Care Day by organizing public meetings and consultations with social activists, philanthropists, NGOs and related organizations with CSR activities. An approx. 50 enthusiastic participants attended the celebrations that aimed to create awareness and sensitize them of the complementary role and scope of social support that these activists, philanthropists, and NGO’s could provide towards facilitating the delivery of comprehensive palliative care services for patients from Assam and other North Eastern States.
Dr. Kabindra Bhagabati, In-Charge of Dept. of Palliative Medicine, Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the significance of celebrating the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day.
Dr. B. B. Borthakur, Deputy Director (Administration) of Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute, highlighted the importance and role of social workers in providing palliative care for cancer patients; while Dr. Dinesh Chandra Goswami, Secretary, Guwahati Pain and Palliative Care Society, highlighted the crucial need for societal involvement while treating cancer patients.
Ms. Shipra Bhattacharjee from Guwahati was then felicitated by the Institute for her invaluable contribution towards the welfare of the patients at the Institute.
The sessions were anchored by Dr. Samujjhal Bharadwaj, while Mr. Tarun Sonowal offered the vote of thanks.
