Dr Sushma Bhatnagar bestowed with the ‘Dr MJ Joshi – IMA Oration Award’ on 8th January, 2023
We are delighted to share that Dr Sushma Bhatnagar (President, IAPC) was the recipient of the prestigious ‘Dr MJ Joshi – IMA Oration Award’.
Dr Sushma Bhatnagar was presented with this award on Sunday, 8th January, 2023, during the 32nd annual conference of Multicon, 2023, held at Pune.
The award was presented to Dr Sushma Bhatnagar in recognition of her contribution to the speciality of Palliative Medicine.
On this occasion Dr Sushma shares, “I am grateful to the jury for recognising me to receive this prestigious award and for acknowledging my contribution in the area of Palliative Medicine. While the award acknowledges my work, I am also deeply aware of the responsibility that it brings along with it. This recognition only motivates me further to work harder and deliver the best that I am capable of.”

Dr M R Rajagopal presented with the ‘P K Das Best Doctors Award 2022: Life Time Achievement’ on 14th January, 2023
It is with excitement we share that Dr M R Rajagopal (Founder and Chairman, Pallium India) was one of the recipients of the ‘P K Das Best Doctors Award 2022’ under the Lifetime Achievement category. The award was presented to Dr Rajagopal at a ceremony held at the P K Das Medical College in Vaniamkulam, Kerala, on Saturday, 14th January, 2023.
The award is instituted in memory of Dr P K Das, the Founder Chairman of the Nehru Group, and was presented jointly by the Nehru group and the PK Das Institute of Medical Sciences. The Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed upon Dr Rajagopal to acknowledge and recognise his immense contribution towards delivering comprehensive services in health care and more importantly, Palliative Care.
Five other doctors from Kerala and three other doctors from Tamil Nadu were also felicitated under separate categories during the award ceremony.

Dr Lalit Kumar Raiger felicitated with a ‘Meritorious award for excellency in work’ by the Government of Rajasthan on 26th January, 2023
Dr Lalit Kumar Raiger (Senior Professor, Anesthesiology; Principal, GMC Sirohi), was felicitated with a ‘Meritorious award for his excellency in work’ by the State Government District Administration of Rajasthan, on Thursday, 26th January, 2023.
Dr Raiger was felicitated by Dr Bhanwar Lal (District Collector) and Shri Sanyam Lodha (MLA and Advisor to Chief Minister of Rajasthan) at a District Level Republic Day Celebratory event organised by the State Government, which was attended by District level officials of different departments, personnel from the Police and the NCC groups, students from various colleges and schools, and also the general public.
The award recognises Dr Raiger’s personal contribution towards establishing a new medical college and his efforts towards admitting 100 medical (MBBS) students. This recognition was also in acknowledgement of his efforts in organising palliative care awareness workshops, conducting academic CME’s and in initiating pain and palliative care service provisioning in the hospital.
An elated Dr Raiger shares, “If one works hard and is committed towards their goal, their work will always receive the required support and also get acknowledged.”

Cancer Aid Society announces the winners of the ‘International Award for Excellence in Palliative Care (2022-2023)’
The Cancer Aid Society announced the winners of the ‘International Award for Excellence in Palliative Care (2022-2023)’ on Thursday 19th January, 2023.
The awards recognised three individuals under three categories.
Dr Priti Rashmin Sanghavi (Incharge Deputy Director, Professor and Head, Department of Pain and Palliative Medicine, Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute, Ahmedabad) was the recipient of the award under the Doctors Category.
Ms Sangeetha Murugan (Head, Nursing Education, Bangalore Hospice Trust – Karunashraya, Bengaluru) was the recipient of the award under the Nurses / Para Medical Category
Mr Babu Abraham (Head, Department of Social Engagement, Pallium India, Thiruvananthapuram) was the recipient of the award under the Volunteers / Social Workers category.
The three awardees will receive their awards during the 30th Annual International Conference of the Indian Association Of Palliative Care (IAPCON 2023), scheduled to be held at Bengaluru in February, 2023.

Hospicio South Goa District Hospital Palliative Care Center, Goa, inaugurates a new palliative care center on 3rd January, 2023
We are delighted to share that a new palliative care (PC) center has been inaugurated at the Hospicio South Goa District Hospital Palliative Care Center, Goa, on Tuesday, 3rd January, 2023.
This new project is a collaborative effort between the Directorate of Health Services, Government of Goa, and the Cipla Foundation. Under this collaboration, the Cipla Foundation will help set up the center by sponsoring a project coordinator, a Palliative care physician, a counsellor, a social worker, a nurse and a data entry operator; while the team from Hospicio South Goa District Hospital will support two doctors and two nurses. The ongoing support from Novi Survat (an organization that provides palliative care services to the pediatric population) will also continue.
The centre aims to cater to the palliative care needs of patients from South Goa.
The new center will provide daily Out-patient services, daily home based care services, and an in-patient service with existing infrastructure. The team shares that a dedicated palliative care ward will be set up shortly.
Over time the team intends to expand their service coverage to include provisioning services to the remote villages of South Goa by involving the primary health centres and community health centres under the National Programme for Palliative Care.
