A month of events at Bhagawan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital and Research Center, Jaipur, Rajasthan.

In keeping with this year’s theme – “Universal Health Coverage – Don’t Leave Those Suffering Behind”, an awareness training programme was conducted in the institute. Nurses were educated in the basics of pain management, basics of palliative care and Communication skills by Dr. Vinita Jain, Hemrajani and Mrs. Arati Hota.

Approximately 300 post graduate students from diverse backgrounds -Psychology, Social work, Sociology, Commerce & Science, etc. were introduced to the concept of palliative care and the role of community in palliative care.

“What is palliative care?”, “How can I help my loved one?”… this were elaborated.

Important activity to sensitize the national community about the need of morphine and the gravity of the problem, Dr. Anjum Khan Joad tweeted, “Morphine: Made in India”, but less than 2% Indians have access to it, was addressed to the Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi.

Members also contributed by participating in different TV (Doordarshan – Swasth desh) and Radio channels about palliative care. The hospital team touched about 1000 people.
