World Hospice and Palliative Care Day was celebrated at Mahavir Cancer Sansthan and Research Centre, Patna, Bihar. A CME was organised focused on integration of palliative care in oncological care. It was attended by many doctors and nurses from AIIMS Patna, IGIMS Patna, NMCH and PMCH Patna, apart from MCSRC.

The guest speaker was Dr. Umesh Bhadani, Dean of AIIMS Patna who talked about the role of interventional pain management. The CME comprised of talks by eminent speakers about integration of palliative care in surgery, radiation oncology, medical oncology and palliative care emergencies.

Case based panel discussion was done on metastatic breast cancer and inoperable head-neck cancer with issues related to malignant fungating ulcer, intractable pain, malnutrition, carotid blow out, importance of prognostication in cancer trajectory and end of life care.

It was concluded by Director Dr. B. Sanyal with the take-home message of the need for interdisciplinary meetings for holistic approach for patient care with compassion.
