South Zone: World Hospice & Palliative Care Day Celebration at
Pallium India, Trivandrum, Kerala
Pallium India celebrated this year’s World Hospice and Palliative Care Day on 9th October, by organizing a get-together of patients, caregivers, family members, volunteers, staff and well-wishers.
Every year during the pre-covid era, these events were conducted at beautiful locations such as at a beach or beside a lake. The pandemic has unfortunately put an end to that luxury. However, we did not want to let go of an opportunity to get together and have some fun and laughter. So this year, we all connected through zoom, and had a blast.
Mr. Blessy, Film Director, and Actors Mr. Sreekant Murali and Ms. Seema G. Nair were the Chief Guests for our virtual get-together. Dr. M. R. Rajagopal, Chairman, Pallium India, delivered the Keynote Address. Mr. Manoj G. S., CEO, Pallium India, welcomed everyone to the event. Dr. Sunil Kumar M. M., Additional Director of Trivandrum Institute of Palliative Sciences (TIPS) announced the winners of the scholarships instituted by Mr. P. M. Kuriakose and Mrs. Annamma Kuriakose. Cine Artist Mr. Vinu Mohan also participated in the event.
This was followed by cultural programs by the families of palliative care recipients, in which everyone participated enthusiastically. Mr. Babu Abraham, Head-Social Engagement, Pallium India, expressed thanks to everyone for being part of the event and for being a part of the Pallium India family.
On Saturday, October 2nd, 2021, the Pallium India and Students’ Initiative in Palliative Care (SIPC) Trivandrum Coordination Committee of University of Kerala NSS Cell hosted an online Annual Conference of SIPC, in association with Loyola College of Social Sciences, Trivandrum and the Kerala Association Professional Social Workers (KAPS) Trivandrum Chapter. Paper Presentations and Poster Presentations were organized based on this year’s WHPCD theme ’Leave No One behind- Equity in Access to Palliative Care’. The award for the Best Educational Institution for Social Commitment was presented to Baby John Memorial Government College, Chavara, Kollam.
October 2nd each year, will henceforth be observed as ‘SIPC Day’ in the years to come.
