14 October 2023 the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, was celebrated by Max Hospital (Division of Pain and Palliative Medicine) with the Senior Citizen Club D Block Saket New Delhi.
The meeting was attended by around 50 senior citizens together with Dr. Gaurav Chanana and his team including DNB trainees Dr. Pooja Dutta, Dr. Tousheef and Ms Madhu Juneja ( Volunteer, Counselor).
Dr Gaurav Chanana introduced the concept of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day and also spoke about the theme for 2023 “Compassionate Communities- Together for Palliative Care”.
He did introduce Palliative Medicine and created awareness on it , and what it encompasses and other related terms like Hospice care, Supportive care and End of life care. The audience were quite receptive and understood the Care which starts with diagnosis and focuses on well-being of patients families and were curious especially about the Advance Care Directives/ Living Will that was quite well addressed by Dr. Chanana.
Ms Madhu Juneja did share her journey as a patient, a caregiver, a volunteer and also as a Counsellor.
At the end he introduced IAPC certificate course for Volunteering in Palliative Care and also invited interest for opportunities of Volunteering in Max Palliative Care.
