International Nurses Day: Celebrating our Palliative Care Nurses
Ms. Subadra O.
Soul Palliative Care Team, Chennai
Ms Subadra was trained in Palliative Care in 2015. Since then, she joined the founders of Soul Palliative Care to deliver palliative care to the suffering patients in Tamil Nadu. When Soul Palliative Care was registered as a Trust in 2020, she continued to work in the organization as the Lead – Palliative Care Nurse.
Till date, the minute she receives a call from her patients’ she gets onto her two-wheeler with her home care bag and drives to any nook and corner in the city to deliver care to her patients.
The travel restrictions that were imposed due to the Covid-19 lockdown also didn’t deter her from adorning her uniform to travel and persuading the police officers to support her palliative care patients. She also aided those diagnosed with Covid-19, when no other medical personnel was willing to help. Ms Subadra personally oversaw the logistics of transporting those who had passed on due to Covid-19 and also provided support to their families, in the same way that she would do for her palliative care patients’.
Ms Subadra’s dedication to palliative care should be recognized, as she is always ready to listen to those suffering with health problems; one of the most crucial attributes to be a palliative care nurse.
