Ms Arpita Dey, Ms Moushumi Chakraborty, and Ms Soma Jana are palliative care nurses at the Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute (CNCI), Kolkata, which is one of the two centers in West Bengal to provide Out-patient services, In-patient services and Hospice Care to cancer patients from the region.

Our three champion nurses provide emotional and psycho-social support to their patients and their families. They also help maintain oral hygiene, provide stoma and tracheostomy care, and lymphedema management to the in-patients’ at the center.

Ms Dey, Ms Chakraborty, and Ms Jana are also involved in taking the History of their follow-up patients.

They meticulously maintain the records related to the procurement and supply of oral Morphine and help in submitting the Annual Report of the Department of Pain and Palliative Care.

In addition to the above, Ms Dey, Ms Chakraborty, and Ms Jana teach palliative care nursing to students from other Institutes. They are therefore undoubtedly the backbone of the Department of Pain and Palliative Care at CNCI, Kolkata.
