South Zone: World Hospice & Palliative Care Day Celebration at
Sparsh Hospice, Hyderabad, Telangana
In a bid to spread awareness about hospice and palliative care, and to mark the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, Sparsh Hospice had organised a series of events to reunite beneficiaries’ families, volunteers, inpatients, homecare patients and staff members by screening a short film, organising experts talk and other such activities.
On the occasion, Mr. Madhav Rao, Volunteer, Sparsh Hospice, presented his views on the community’s role in creating awareness regarding a hospice and palliative care. He went on to share, “There was a time when we struggled to make people understand about the need for palliative care. People from nearby places are now reaching out to us to refer those patients who need such services. Though it has taken years to generate this kind of awareness amongst them, we still have a long way to go.”
The team at Sparsh Hospice also screened a short film ‘Sparsh Hospice’, which was directed and produced by Sparsh volunteers. The short film showcases a patient’s journey all the way from his rural home to Sparsh.
Post the screening, Ananaya (name changed), one of patients, shared his experience with Sparsh as he held onto his wife’s hand. He said, “Our story is very similar to that in the movie as we are also from a rural area in Telangana. Despite leaving my own house, I have never once felt like I was staying far from my home during my stay here. Sparsh has been providing very good comfort care not only for me, but also for my wife as they took care of her in every way they could.”
