World Hospice and Palliative care day was observed at Malabar Cancer Centre on 14th October 2023 with lot of enthusiasm from the staff and nursing students. An awareness class for community volunteers was jointly organised by the Department of Cancer Palliative Medicine and the Department of Community Oncology supported by Pannyanoor block panchayat members and our nursing students. The program was held at Panoor block panchayat hall, Thazhe Chambad. Around 50 community volunteers participated in the program.

The program began at 10 am with the inauguration by Pannyanoor Panchayat President, Mr. Ashokan. A session on “Palliative care: A social responsibility” was taken by Dr. M. S. Biji, in-charge, Cancer Palliative Medicine department of MCC. This was followed by a session on “How to care a bedridden patient?” was taken by Mrs. Sheeja Nellikka, Palliative Nurse, MCC. The community volunteers actively participated in the discussions. They suggested many more similar sessions to be taken periodically to update their knowledge. The program came to an end at 1.00pm.
