World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, celebrated on the 2nd Saturday of October each year, is an occasion to recognize and champion the vital role of palliative care in improving the quality of life for patients facing serious illnesses.
This year, let us shine a light on the concept of compassionate communities in palliative care, an approach that underscores the significance of collective support, empathy, and care beyond clinical settings. Compassionate communities are those in which people actively work together to improve the quality of life for those living with a life-limiting illness and their families.
These communities seek to foster empathy, understanding, and a sense of belonging among individuals facing illness, loss, and grief. They go beyond traditional healthcare settings and recognize that palliative care is a shared responsibility that should be woven into the fabric of society.
We celebrated this day in collaboration with ‘make a wish’ foundation team with the paediatric palliative patients. The celebration included wish granting, magic show, tattooing and performances by kids. The team presented role play on “Communication skills” and enlightened the audience on introduction to PC and Compassion whereas the Dignitaries addressed the audience with gratitude and empathy.
